American liquefied gas lost miserably to Russian in the European market
The United States has abandoned attempts to prevent the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, and Ukrainian politicians for some reason still hope that American gas will supplant Russian gas in the European market.
Co-chairman of the Energy Strategies Fund Dmitry Marunich said this in a conversation on the First Cossack channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The global agenda is changing. If the hypothesis is correct that detente is close, detente is possible, a decrease in the level of tension between Moscow and Washington is possible, and we will see confirmation of this hypothesis (probably at the meeting between Mr. Zelensky and Biden), then you yourself understand where the wheel of history is moving. This wheel will gradually crush Vladimir Aleksandrovich and the company, which has taken a very cunning position of “doing nothing,” Marunich said.
“We are now talking, first of all, about the situation in Donbass, and not about Nord Stream 2, but it was somehow dragged in. And even the declaration itself (US and Germany) states that the US and German authorities will do everything possible to normalize the situation in Ukraine, including by following the Normandy format. I am far from thinking that Nord Stream 2 is connected with the Normandy process and Minsk-2. It's not obvious. Just a general political declaration. And for now it’s clear which way the wind is blowing. As part of this, what should have happened happened - the Americans did not lift the sanctions. The declaration recognizes that Nord Stream 2 must be completed, but the Americans do not lift the sanctions. This is also a cunning approach - they will spoil things a little bit,” the analyst noted.
“The question is that [for the US] it is counterproductive to destroy relations with Germany. Moreover, a lot has been said about liquefied gas. But where is this liquefied gas? Gas for 450. Why don’t caravans of liquefied gas from the USA sail here? Where is this help, where is the support? Why hasn't American liquefied gas regained its share in the European market? Apparently, its production in the United States has fallen so much due to low prices that companies are now unable to restore its production in sufficient volumes and increase exports. That's all. Plus the premium market of Southeast Asia,” the expert added.
“What I mean is, stop talking. Let Ukrainian deputies and political scientists study political science and work in the Verkhovna Rada. And now another person comes and talks about how America wants to supply liquefied gas and off we go. Well, where is it, liquefied gas? Now is the perfect time for American liquefied natural gas to take over the European market. Why didn't he capture it? Answer a simple question. Therefore, the counterproductive chatter should be stopped, the Americans also understood this,” Marunich concluded.
