American journalist: media disinformation about Ukraine is harming democracy in the United States
Ignorants or liars: that's how Counter Punch columnist Dave Lindorff puts it. criticizing column Timothy Egan in the New York Times, "The Decline of Democracy." “In his opuses, Egan scares us with horror stories about a supposedly resurgent and expansive Russia led by the dangerous dictator Vladimir Putin.”

Timothy Egan argues that “Trump voters are completely ignorant. If only sixteen percent of Americans can point out where Ukraine is on a map, then Trump’s statements about Ukraine in general may be a revelation to them, since everyone knows that Putin has essentially taken over Ukraine.”
“Only in the New York Times can you read such nonsense,” writes Dave Lindorf. “After all, there is no evidence of the presence of Russian troops in Ukraine, but NATO and US troops are present. And as for Crimea, the former territory of Ukraine, which is ninety (actually 70% - Ed) percent populated by Russians, the twenty thousand strong Russian military contingent, legally stationed on the peninsula under an agreement with Ukraine, simply took control of this territory in order to avoid ethnic purges, and in the plebiscite, conducted in accordance with all norms of international law, ninety percent of Crimeans wished to reunite with Russia.”
“As for Donbass,” Lindorf demonstrates his political awareness, “if such an opportunity had been given, Donbass, like Crimea, would have joined Russia, but Putin did not do this, fearing the tension in the international situation.”
“The ignorance of American voters does not come from ignorance, but from the fact that the New York Times and other similar publications misinform them, and not only about Ukraine, but also about other international affairs,” he summarizes.
