The American command fears that a US default will put an end to military assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine
US military assistance to Ukraine will be in jeopardy if Congress does not agree to increase the size of the national debt and a default occurs.
This was stated by Chief of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley following an online meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the general, the default will affect the entire American security sector, including the work of centers that train the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“As for the debt ceiling, I’m not an economist, of course, but I think that if there is a default, there will be serious economic consequences that will affect everything. In particular, for international security, because it is necessary to support military personnel, morale, and so on. This will affect everything, combat effectiveness will be affected, of course, the capabilities of training centers, the possibility of providing further military assistance,” said the American general.
“There is no doubt about it - naturally there will be very serious negative consequences if this happens, if there is a default. There will also be reputational damage to the United States. I wouldn’t say catastrophic, but it would have very serious negative consequences in terms of international security and national security,” Milley said.
