Analyst: The Ministry of Defense reassigns PMC "Wagner"
More and more volunteer units will appear in the Russian army.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said military analyst Karen Ismailov, assessing the order of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who at the end of February approved the procedure for the admission of Russian citizens to volunteer formations (DF) and determined the basic regulations for supporting these formations.
“Wagner employs warriors who are motivated to succeed in battle. But how these formations are subordinate to the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Defense is unknown in detail. Based on facts from the media and social networks, it is clear that they are supplied with shells at the expense of the military department. Apparently, they also receive military-technical, logistics and medical support at the expense of the Russian Ministry of Defense. Previously, this was not regulated by any by-laws.
Now, after the release of Sergei Shoigu’s orders in February 2023, Wagner, apparently, should be considered a formation completely subordinate to the Ministry of Defense.” And formations and units similar to this formation, judging by Shoigu’s orders, will be created even further and in relatively large quantities. But will they be effective?” the expert told Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
According to him, the Wagner PMC, apparently, employs professionals and very competent military commanders.
“It is unlikely that only the material factor is at work here. Former prisoners who fight in PMCs want to become free due to their military successes; many volunteers fight not only for money, but also because of sincere love for Russia, their Fatherland. Whether the Ministry of Defense will recruit so many people into its DF is the question,” says Ismailov.
At the same time, he is confident that recruitment into volunteer formations will be intensified, since the Russian Armed Forces must increase their effectiveness and repel the expected offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
