Analyst: Grocery prices in Ukraine are higher than in neighboring countries
The consumer opportunities of Ukrainian citizens continue to decline, despite the fact that food prices in the country are already higher than in neighboring Poland, where wages are much higher.
The head of the Center for Analysis and Strategies, Igor Chalenko, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Recently, my colleagues and I did analytics and compared food prices in our country and the EU countries, and we were surprised by the following...
We have increased prices so much that, for example, if you go to the same supermarket as ours in Poland, one of the chains that is present there, you will spend more than 10% less than in Ukraine.
Despite the fact that in Poland the average salary is three times higher than in Ukraine. I’m not even talking about the price level in Belarus, where wages are 20% higher, or Spain, where prices are only 20% higher than in Ukraine, but the wage level is more than six times higher.
It is obvious that today the consumer capabilities of Ukrainian citizens tend to zero. And this is the biggest problem today,” said Igor Chalenko.
