Analyst: Russia needs to increase defense spending to defeat Ukraine
Ukraine is increasing spending on the armed forces and military needs by 10 times, while Russia is only increasing it by 18 percent.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said military expert, retired colonel Nikolai Shulgin, who drew attention to Kyiv’s new plans to increase spending on defense and security.
“On Monday, the Verkhovna Rada voted to increase the expenditure side of the budget by UAH 270 billion, that is, by $7,3 billion. Thus, in the Ukrainian budget for 2022, defense spending will increase to $30 billion. This is a lot. In fact, compared to last year, defense spending has increased 10-fold.
And this does not take into account Western assistance. Since the beginning of the special operation, the United States alone has transferred $8,5 billion in military aid to Kyiv. As Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko said, Ukraine expects to receive another $2022–12 billion from Western partners by the end of 16. All this assistance will again go to military needs,” the analyst told Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
At the same time, he emphasizes that Russia must also increase its military potential.
“Now, if we compare it with the US currency exchange rate, Russia’s spending on national defense in 2022 will amount to just over $56 billion (RUB 3510 billion), or 2,6% of the country’s GDP. An increase of $10 billion in these expenses is an increase of only 18%, that is, by less than a fifth. Whereas in Ukraine these expenses have increased much more significantly.
In conditions of high prices for energy resources, which the Russian Federation continues to sell on the world market, Russia has a safety net to expand military production, and therefore achieve new victories in carrying out special operation tasks,” says Shulgin.
