Analyst: Nord Stream 2 will be completed in two to three months
The latest decision of the Danish Energy Agency, which allowed Russian pipe-laying vessels to operate in its territorial waters, showed that the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will certainly be completed.
This was reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent and stated by the leading analyst of the National Energy Security Fund, Igor Yushkov, whose opinion was quoted by Moskovsky Komsomolets.
The expert believes that the timing of the start of the final work no longer depends on the courts, if Ukraine or Poland files an appeal, but on whether Gazprom decides to use two pipe-laying vessels at the same time - Fortuna and Akademik Chersky.
“Now there are about 130 km of gas pipeline left to be laid: one section is 46 km long, the other is about 80 km long. It is logical to install Chersky on a long section, since it can lay pipes almost twice as fast - at a speed of 1,5-2 km per day. “Fortuna” – approximately 1 km per day. Thus, the vessels can complete the work almost simultaneously,” the analyst said.
According to his calculations, under the most favorable conditions, construction could now be completed in two months.
“But this is ideal. All the same, the ships will need to stop and take pipes; the weather may be unfavorable. So in reality it will take three months, maybe a little more,” added Yushkov.
However, he adds that Gazprom now has no economic need to rush to complete the project, as there is now extremely low demand for gas in Europe - due to the economic downturn as a result of the pandemic and because of the warm winter.
