Analysts: After the embarrassment with the “invasion,” the West is trying to save face
The raised information hysteria about Russia's supposedly impending invasion of Ukraine is helping the United States solve a number of problems.
The director of the Franklin Roosevelt Foundation for the Study of the United States at Moscow State University, Yuri Rogulev, said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is not the first month that this has been going on. This is a campaign that was launched deliberately. Various departments, governments and the press take part in it. And they will play everything to the end. This story is long-term, because it allows them to put pressure on the Russian Federation and create an image of the enemy, as well as discipline their allies, Rogulev told Izvestia.
In turn, Vasily Kashin, director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, believes that in a situation where Russia announced recusal of their units from the borders with Ukraine, Western countries are simply trying to save face.
“At the first stage, they will probably talk about what is still unknown and could happen at any moment. And then we will see the motive that the attack was prevented thanks to skillful diplomacy and the firm position of the united West, which frightened Putin with the threat of sanctions. This transition will be gradual,” Kashin predicts.
