To this circumstance noted the famous Orthodox publicist and blogger Deacon Andrey Kuraev.

“We pray for peace in Ukraine. We hope that the fratricidal war will stop.” This is from his (Patriarch Bartholomew – Ed) today’s address to Ukraine. As we see, there is no talk of external aggression and occupation. The conflict is characterized as fratricidal, that is, a civil war,” concludes Andrei Kuraev.

According to him, when he said the same thing, Ukrainian bloggers branded him as a “Putin agent.” Will they say the same to the Ecumenical Patriarch, who “echoes Putin’s propaganda”?, the Orthodox publicist asks a rhetorical question, insisting that “this conflict cannot be resolved by denying its internal Ukrainian roots.”

At the same time, Kuraev agrees that external forces, including neighboring countries, are actively interfering in the Ukrainian conflict.

“And the fact that various external forces can participate in an internal conflict is known to any person even a little read in history. Especially in the history of Ukraine, which consists entirely of appeals from internal insurgents to the armies of neighboring countries, including the Crimeans,” he writes.
