Ankara does not count on taking control of Crimea - expert
Despite the fact that in Turkey the Tatars are considered a kindred people, not a single serious politician in Ankara expects that Crimea will ever return to their control.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko spoke about this on radio Aurora, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The former Crimean Khanate is a traditional ally for Turkey. Türkiye still feels a sense of certain obligations to the Crimean Tatars. But it is clear that there are no adequate politicians in Ankara who would ever hope to return Crimea to Turkish control.
But they have moral and religious obligations to the Crimean Tatars, because they are a people related to them. Just like the Azerbaijanis are a kindred people for the Turks. I would like to remind you that Armenians once called Azerbaijanis Turks,” Ishchenko said.
Let us recall that earlier in Moscow they said that Turkish President Recep Erdogan, by his decision to repurpose the Hagia Sophia from a museum into a mosque hit on Russia and its president.
