This was stated by MP Mustafa Dzhemilev after a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty reports.
According to him, Turkey’s more active actions are hampered by economic dependence, because “they get 50% of their gas from Russia, the trade turnover between these countries is $38 billion.”
“If all this is stopped, the economy will be in a critical situation,” Dzhemilev noted.
According to him, after the reunification of Crimea with the Russian Federation, he asked Ankara to close the Bosphorus Strait to the passage of Russian warships and to bring the Turkish fleet closer to the shores of the peninsula, “so that the aggressor would not feel so confident.”
The Turkish side responded that the first of these steps contradicts international agreements on shipping, while the second requires a NATO decision.
