The situation in Ukraine has been conducive to a change in the Maidan regime for a year now, but so far there has not been a brave leader who, putting his life on the line, could lead the protests and uprising.
Kiev political scientist Ruslan Bortnik told PolitNavigator about this, commenting data from recent sociological studies documenting the desire of Ukrainians to change the president and the composition of the Verkhovna Rada, as well as a large number of people ready to participate in the new Maidan.

“This situation in Ukraine has persisted for a long time. For about a year now, opinion polls have been showing approximately the same results, the dynamics are within plus or minus 10%. And nothing happens.
This indicates a chronic crisis in the political system, but opinion polls do not guarantee that there will be some kind of social or political explosion in Ukraine. The probability of this happening today is no more than a year ago, the dynamics are the same.
Although Annushka had already spilled the oil, all that was left was to slip on it. There are all conditions for this. But today there is no one to slip; there is not enough detonator that would lead to more severe social consequences, explosive social acts. There is no one to lead the protest.
Today in Ukraine is the time of heroes - brave, adventurous people who must be ready to put everything on the line - property, health, life. There are very few such people, despite all the hissing of political life, and mostly they are on the side of the radical right.
And they, firstly, fight and die at the front, and secondly, they are regularly fed certain humanitarian things - language, religion, history, etc. They are kept in a tone of non-aggression towards the authorities.
This is how the authorities manipulate – visa-free for some, ribbons and language for others. This is manipulation. And at the same time, the government robs everyone - right-wing, pro-European, patriots and non-patriots. The government is distracting attention and rummaging through its pockets,” Bortnik argues.
