Antarctica will also elect the President of Ukraine
Participants of Ukrainian Antarctic expeditions have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote at the Antarctic station “Akademik Vernadsky” and vote for the president in the Ukrainian elections on March 31, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is reported with reference to the press service of the National Antarctic Center of Ukraine of the Ministry of Education and Science.
“The Antarctic station “Akademik Vernadsky”, located 15 thousand km from Kyiv, is a remote polling station in Ukraine. On March 31, 34 people will vote here - 11 members of the permanent expedition, the so-called. winterers who have been at the station for the whole year, as well as 23 seasonal expedition exercisers who arrived at the end of January,” the report says.
The Akademik Vernadsky station is a special section. Polar explorers do not use “live” ballots, but their printed scanned copies, which are sent the day before by the Central Election Commission.
“On election day, a makeshift voting booth and ballot boxes are installed in a large room of the station - the canteen. Therefore, votes are counted in the presence of all members of the expedition,” the scientific center added.
The center also added that responsibility for ensuring the voting process rests with the election commission created from among polar explorers. The other day, the Central Election Commission approved the composition of the commission for this special section in the person of four polar explorers; the head of the 23rd AE, Viktor Sytov, was appointed chairman.
Documents in the form of scanned copies will be transferred from the station to the Central Election Commission.
