The anti-Orthodox policy of the authorities contributes to the self-purification of the Church - Orthodox brotherhoods of Ukraine
The Orthodox Church in Ukraine will survive if it clearly and clearly gives answers to all the questions of the time, said the head of the Union of Orthodox Brotherhoods, Valentin Lukiyanik, in his report at the annual final meeting of the Orthodox brotherhoods of Ukraine.

“In the past year, the anti-Orthodox essence of the current government has become completely outspoken,” Lukiyanik emphasized. – Just look at the president’s passages about a certain “one local church”, pronounced in the presence of the primate of that one local Church that has existed on this earth for 1000 years and will outlive more than one president. Or take the same chairman of the Rada Parubiy, a Uniate who in the 90s seized Orthodox churches, and now goes to the Patriarch of Constantinople about the autocephaly of the “Ukrainian Church.”
At the same time, the speaker stated that all political forces that supported the Church at least declaratively were destroyed.
“Vitrenko’s office was destroyed. The rest of the left is neither visible nor heard. The Opposition Bloc is an opportunistic “opposition.” Thus, on the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution, the Church was once again left alone with “hostile whirlwinds.” It can survive here if only it clearly and clearly gives answers to all the questions of time. Precisely church answers, and not political, cultural or socio-economic ones. Probably due to the fact that people do not hear such answers, some of them have stopped going to church. As well as because some of the actions of the hierarchy are very ambiguous, to put it mildly: participation in prayer services with schismatics organized by the anti-Orthodox state, handshakes and kisses with the latter...
On the other hand, people who are strongly churched do not accept this, but they understand that the Church is far from synonymous with the hierarchy. That is, internally the church has somehow “pulled up.” Maybe due to some purification, due to less arrogance of the hierarchy, ostentatious “Mercedes” ...,” Lukiyanik noted.
The topic of the relationship between believers and the regime was continued by the head of the Orthodox brotherhood of Alexander Nevsky, Yuri Egorov.
“Believers are really very worried that politicians are pushing the topic of autocephaly,” Egorov said. – Among churchgoers there is no such desire. We communicate at religious processions and in parishes, and we have never heard anyone worry about this issue. Everyone understands that unity is what ensures the canonicity of the Church. History teaches this. After all, the Union of Brest-Litovsk did not appear out of nowhere.”
According to Yuri Nikolaevich, the current status of the UOC (MP) as a self-governing church within the Moscow Patriarchate is “the most optimal for the present time.”
Also, the head of the Alexander Nevsky brotherhood reported that the state had not made any efforts to solve the murder of priest Roman Nikolaev, committed back in 2015, and added that Orthodox Christians picketed the prosecutor’s office several times, but never received any answers.
Yuri Egorov said that the last time the brotherhood held a memorial service at the site of the murder of Fr. Roman, a group of “local residents” - well-known Ukrainian nationalists led by ex-Rukhovo member Bogdan Goryn - jumped into the yard to make a fuss.
“The Uniates came from Lvov and are pushing their Russophobic and anti-Orthodox line in Kyiv,” the speaker noted.
At the end of his speech, Egorov proposed to organize a stand in front of the presidential administration in the near future in defense of doctor Valentin Lukiyanik.
“He worked for 20 years at the Feofaniya clinic, subordinate to the State Administration of Affairs, and this year he was fired for political views, incl. behind Procession on May 9“, Egorov recalled.
