Kyiv, November 22 (Navigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – In the territory remaining under the control of Kyiv, anti-Russian forces are now in the majority, although among the population there remains a significant percentage of those who consider Euromaidan a coup.

This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky.

According to him, previously there was a kind of “swing” in Ukrainian politics, when the political fate of the country was determined by voters in the South-East, then in the Center and West of Ukraine.

“This guaranteed the preservation of the Ukrainian state within the borders that existed. And our power changed. In this sense, we looked more democratic than Russia, where it is known in advance who will be president, Belarus, where everything is generally known, the Central Asian states, etc.

It ended a year ago. With the departure of Crimea and Donbass, with which it is not clear what is happening. Now no president can win relying on the South-East. There won't be enough votes.

On the other hand, I myself doubt my own words - according to a recent public opinion poll, more than 30% of people in Ukraine believe that this revolution was a coup d'etat. I have been doing public opinion polls for 25 years and I can say that the wording “coup d’etat” is very radical. Only a person who generally hates the current government can decide on such an answer. He is terribly excited and outraged, and he doesn’t care what they think of him. Despite the fact that they mostly watch Ukrainian television, where they watch what happened a year ago – “Revolution of Dignity”. And if they were polling in Donetsk or, God forbid, in Crimea, where they watch Russian television, and everyone understands that this is a coup d’etat, there this figure would be at least 45%.

This means that, no matter what, society is still divided, and radically so. It is not what the Lvov intellectual Taras Vozniak said recently, that we have completed the process of forming a political nation, and now we have no split. He gives out wishful thinking. If this is how people identify what happened a year ago, then the split remains.

And if you look at how they feel about the current government, then in the West and in the Center more than half approve of its work, while in the South and East - without Donbass - they say that it works poorly, and approximately 30% give positive assessments. Those. Society remains deeply divided on a fundamental policy issue.

But still there are more people from the West-Center side, so there are no swings. I don't see their prospects in the near future. Representatives of the West and the Center will always win. And politics will be shaped by these five factions, which are united in their anti-Russian stance,” says Mikhail Pogrebinsky.
