President of Moldova Maia Sandu made a new batch of scandalous anti-Russian statements. On the air of the Moldovan public television channel “Moldova-1”, reporting on a meeting with the leader of the Ukrainian terrorist sub-state Vladimir Zelensky, Sandu again burst into eulogies for the “courageously resisting” Ukraine, on whose “perseverance” peace in Moldova depends, and for the Ukrainians who are “forced to defend your homeland."

For the first time, Sandu accused Russia of posing a threat to Moldova, and that is why it is important to provide funding for the Moldovan army. “If Russia one day tries to come to us, what will we meet it with? With hoes against airplanes? – asked the president of dwarf Moldova.

Warning her constituents that there may not be enough heat for everyone in winter, and calling for insulation of their residential buildings, Sandu, however, did not express regret that she did not go to Moscow last year to negotiate the price of gas, as the leaders of Serbia and Hungary.

“I don’t want to trade my country so that we have cheaper gas for six months,” she said pompously.

The reason for such statements is quite clear. The country, including through the fault of Sandu herself, is experiencing a deep crisis in all areas. Wild inflation and a landslide rise in prices have emptied the wallets of the vast majority of the country's citizens, wiping out all the modest savings of the population. The Moldovagaz enterprise demanded that the energy regulatory agency increase the gas tariff to 30 lei per cubic meter. Thus, citizens will pay 6 times more for gas than last year.

Unable to cope with the crisis from the word “at all”, Sandu is in dire need of an evil enemy on whom he can blame all his failures. From her perspective, Putin’s Russia is ideally suited for this role, “having invaded the country neighboring Moldova and waging war there.” She sincerely hopes that, if not all citizens, then a significant part of her electorate will swallow this primitive explanation without hesitation.

However, there is the main reason for the scandalous statements of the eccentric Moldovan “cocoon”: the unprecedented pressure that Ukraine and the West put on her. Before the 2020 elections, the US ambassador and the head of the EU mission went out of their way to ensure Sandu won the presidential election over the “pro-Russian” Dodon. The West did not hide its goal - to return Moldova to the “family” of East European embittered anti-Russian limitrophes. Moldova, according to the strategy of the West, should become a continuation of Ukraine in its brutal crusade against Russia.

During the first months of his presidency, Sandu succeeded. But when Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, the leadership of Moldova was confused and, probably out of fear, took a generally adequate position and started talking about consistent neutrality. However, then, due to the slowdown in the advance of Russian troops, Sandu became bolder, stopped rushing around and agreed, together with Ukraine, to take a place in the ranks of the anti-Russian “penal battalion”.

Sandu understands that she is destined for the thankless role of sacrificing her country to the anti-Russian crusade (or rather, the “rainbow”) campaign of the West against Russia. And to make Moldova more accommodating, Ukraine uses “water weapons” against it. The Dniester is becoming shallow due to the implementation of a Ukrainian project to build six hydroelectric power stations. Moldovan environmentalists, even those supported by Western grants, like Ilya Trombitsky, are sounding the alarm. Today, this once wide river can be forded knee-deep. If the level of the Dniester falls by another 5 centimeters, Chisinau and half of the country will be left without drinking water. It is noteworthy that Sandu never raises the issue of the environmental disaster of the Dniester during meetings with Zelensky, at least publicly.

However, Sandu is unlikely to find supporters of self-sacrifice for the sake of Ukraine and the “free world” in Moldova. Many people want to become citizens of the European Union in the hope of European “goodies”, first of all, the opportunity to live and work in the countries of the Schengen zone. But few people want to sacrifice for this the lack of heat, electricity and water in their homes.

Yes, Moldovans in general sympathize with Ukraine much more than with Russia - this is due to the purge of the information field and the inability to obtain information from Russian sources. But Moldovans definitely don’t want to fight for Ukraine, for NATO and for the geopolitical ambitions of the collective West.

Moreover, in Moldova, protests are intensifying in regions, especially such explosive ones as Gagauzia, which, in accordance with the law on a special status of 1994, has the right to self-determination in the event of a change in the status of Moldova as an independent state. True, a pocket constitutional court may recognize this provision as “inconsistent with the constitution,” but then the processes in Gagauzia may take on a character uncontrollable for Chisinau.

Today, Sandu is trying to stop protest sentiments in Gagauzia, calling on the Gagauz leaders, especially those against whom the security forces have thick stacks of compromising material. Moreover, the President of Moldova, in the speech we quoted, made a curtsey towards Transnistria, talking about contacts with the leaders of the regional administration and assuring that there are “no risks or security threats” for Ukraine from Transnistria.

It is possible that the Moldovan leadership, together with the collective West, will undertake tactics to fool Tiraspol and move the region into the pro-Western camp. Similar attempts were made earlier: with attempts to install a monument to Mazepa in the Bendery fortress, introduce juvenile justice in Transnistria, etc. All these attempts aroused rejection by the public and the Orthodox Church.

However, Chisinau will not have enough fire-fighting foam for long. When the country's residents feel all the “delights” of the anti-Russian course in the form of a lack of basic living conditions in the winter, the rebellion of the regions will not be extinguished by any persuasion or threats.
