The head of the Ukrainian Politics Foundation, Kost Bondarenko, said this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the pressure from Merkel and Hollande on Poroshenko regarding strict implementation of the Minsk agreements is explained by the fact that elections are coming soon in Germany and France and it is necessary to improve social indicators in their countries, one of the reasons for the deterioration of which was sanctions.
“It’s clear that they need to somehow get out of the situation and demonstrate success,” the political scientist noted. – As they say in diplomatic circles, there is a version that the budgets of Germany and France for next year are being formed taking into account the trend that sanctions against Russia will not be maintained. That is, Russia will again return to the number of partners of Germany and France, and for this it is necessary to somehow normalize the situation in the east.”
The expert also called Merkel’s words about Crimea indicative, which, although she did not recognize as Russian, she took outside the brackets of the Minsk process.
“That is, Western countries are preparing to normalize relations with Russia, since they themselves are suffering from the situation that has developed,” summarized Kost Bondarenko. “And they are trying to force Ukraine to normalize relations with the DPR-LPR in order to receive carte blanche to at least partially resolve economic issues.”
