This was said by the odious people's deputy from the Popular Front faction Anton Gerashchenko, commenting on the draft law registered in parliament on a special annual inspection of officials for drug addiction and dependence on alcohol and psychoactive toxic substances.
“I will vote. I believe that deputies need to be given certificates from a narcologist, or they use drugs. Because a video recording of a deputy from the Opposition Bloc showed that there is such a problem. I would support such a bill. Society would like to know whether people's deputies take drugs or not. Because when officials go to work (ordinary officials), they undergo a medical examination, but people’s (!) deputies do not. This is what needs to be changed so that people’s deputies, like any other officials, go through this,” says Gerashchenko.
He recalled that the distribution and storage of narcotic substances is prohibited by law, and therefore people's deputies who, for example, use them in parliament must be punished in accordance with the law.
The draft law on amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On the Prevention of Corruption” to expand the scope of special inspections, which was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada by a number of people’s deputies, in particular, proposes to check parliamentarians and officials with especially responsible positions for drug addiction annually.
In particular, certain information about the person applying for a position is subject to special verification, including information about the state of health (in terms of the person being registered in psychoneurological or drug treatment institutions).
