Filaret’s appetites are growing against the backdrop of the failure of the attack on the UOC-MP
The schismatic “Kiev Patriarchate,” which received a tomos of recognition in Istanbul, will lay claim to a huge number of churches in Ukraine, taking advantage of its proximity to the current government.
The Ukrainian publication “Mirror of the Week” writes about this today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The OCU will claim – is already claiming – the priority right to use state property. Moreover, temples-museums (and laurels too) are just the icing on the cake. There are also churches at various government institutions - hospitals, military units, prisons, crematoria. In general, there is something to profit from. And the OCU will try not to miss their chance - this is not why the UOC-KP fought so hard for the Tomos and so diligently scared off potential competitors,” the article says.
At the same time, the publication admits, there are practically no real transitions of communities from the canonical Ukrainian Church (Moscow Patriarchate) to schismatics along with churches.
“The unification of churches did not happen - the UOC-MP remains with us, and probably for a long time. Of course, there are transitions, and we count and can even observe structural growth on an interactive map, but we cannot call them massive. Therefore, it is better for us to sweep the favorite church cliche of the Ukrainian authorities (from Kravchuk to Poroshenko), that the church is a “factor of national consolidation,” “Zerkalo Nedeli” writes.
