Arrest of the leader of the “Russian Bloc”: Details of the scandal
In Sevastopol, the day before, the leader of the “Russian Bloc,” Gennady Basov, who several months ago was appointed head of the enterprise that oversees all the city’s cemeteries, was detained on charges of receiving a bribe in the amount of 500 thousand rubles. Basov’s associates claim that he paid for interfering with the “cemetery mafia” by destroying the shadow schemes formed here back in Ukraine.

Today at 17:00 the Nakhimovsky court of Sevastopol must determine a preventive measure for Basov, his lawyer Alexander Semin told PolitNavigator. The lawyer points out inconsistencies in the prosecution's version.
“Basov was detained in a cafe in the Streletskaya Bay area. His car was located several blocks away, near the house on Vakulenchuka. When Basov was brought there, security forces searched the car and found money. Basov himself claims that he did not take them and did not touch them. By the way, his fingerprints were not found either on the bag or on the banknotes,” Semin said.
“About a week and a half ago, Basov came to me and consulted, saying that he had received information from friends close to law enforcement agencies about the possibility of provocations. Those. he knew that such a situation could happen,” the lawyer claims.
“When Basov came to the enterprise, he tried to organize its work in accordance with the standards and make cash flows transparent. This met with serious opposition. As far as I know, before this, in the funeral business there were not entirely correct relations between employees, many of whom had worked for decades, and so-called entrepreneurs, many of whom were the same former employees,” Semin continued.
According to him, individual entrepreneur Evgeniy Rapoport appears in the investigation's version. Allegedly, the bribe was intended to provide him with comfortable working conditions.
“This is an entrepreneur who has been working in the market for a long time. But he is just one of many. There are several private enterprises that provide services for the installation of monuments, benches, improvement of graves, delivery of soil, etc. But Basov’s powers do not allow him, for example, to ban the work of this or that entrepreneur. Therefore, theoretically, there was no point in paying him a bribe,” says the lawyer.
Sevastopol Self-Defense participant Pavel Volkov, Basov’s comrade-in-arms in the “Russian Spring,” speaks more frankly.
“I have information about who exactly set him up - this is a man named Rapoport, a cemetery worker. This is a former traffic police officer, then he was kicked out for a bribe, he has been working at the cemetery for 20 years. When Gennady Anatolyevich went there, I personally warned him and said that it was not easy, there was a lot of money circulating there, a lot of bad things were happening in this cemetery business.
They made a man who supposedly approached, offered something completely different, and then came out with, like, a bribe. The most important thing in this moment is when there is someone who has a grudge and is ready to write a statement - everything else is strained, and there are a lot of people who want to salt Basov.
Now there are raider attacks - people from St. Petersburg and Moscow are coming here. This problem is very serious, the redistribution of property is beginning, everyone has come to their senses a little, there are a lot of Ukrainians here. Now the fun begins.
The same Ukrainians are in the police as before, I know what they were doing then, they are doing the same now. “I am sure that Basov did not commit any crime - this is a pure setup to discredit him, and this is a slap in general at the Russian Bloc and the entire Russian Spring,” said Pavel Volkov.
