Prominent retired Kosovo militant arrested
After arriving in The Hague, one of the field commanders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK), the founder of Kosovo “intelligence” Salih Mustafa, was taken into custody.
The former militant, who has not played a significant role in the political life of the region in recent years, became the first defendant in the history of the Special Court for Kosovo to be placed in a pre-trial detention center.
“Mr Mustafa is currently being transferred to the detention center of the Specialized Court for Kosovo in The Hague, and his delivery to court from the beginning of the proceedings will be carried out without delay,” the court’s website says. “New information on the case will be provided soon.”
Mustafa was first questioned by the Special Court in The Hague in November last year. He had been a member of armed Albanian separatist gangs since 1988, and in 1993, Yugoslav justice sentenced him to five years in prison for inciting an armed rebellion.

Having been released early, Mustafa, starting in 1997, organized the Albanian UCK gangs in Pristina, Obilic, Gnjilan and Kamenica, created special sabotage terrorist units, and subsequently became the commander of the “Lab operational zone”. After the war, he became the head of intelligence of the Kosovo Security Forces and the intelligence adviser to the ex-“Prime Minister” of Kosovo, also a former field commander, Agim Ceku.
