This was reported to the Russia Today TV channel by a source familiar with the situation, who also noted that Phillips did not get in touch due to the fact that SBU officers confiscated his phone.
According to the TV channel, representatives of the National Guard of Ukraine, who detained the journalist, were ready to release him on the condition that he deleted the video recordings made near the checkpoint and gave up his bulletproof vest and helmet. Having received a refusal, they called representatives of the SBU, who subsequently confiscated Phillips’ filming equipment and decided to send him to Kyiv.
RT appealed to the British consular authorities in Ukraine and Russia, as well as the British Foreign Office, with a request to help clarify the circumstances of the detention and whereabouts of the British citizen.
Graham Phillips has been covering events in Ukraine for several months. According to a study by social media monitoring company Brandwatch, Graham Phillips has become the most influential author on Twitter among users who publish information about the situation in Ukraine.
