The arrested organizer of a rally against the surrender of Kosovo has been on a hunger strike for a week
One of the organizers of the rally against the surrender of Kosovo, journalist Dejan Zlatanovic, who was arrested on February 17 for 30 days in the case of calling for a violent change in the constitutional system of Serbia, has been on a protest hunger strike since his arrest.
His lawyer Marko Pušica announced this on February 23, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Dejan Zlatanovic and another organizer of the mentioned rally, Damnjan Knezevic, were harshly detained by security services after holding a rally in front of the Serbian Presidential Administration building late in the evening of February 15. At the same time, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, in a special address to the nation, stated that the rally was organized by anti-Serbian organizations that expect to achieve their goals through violence, with support from abroad, hinting at Russia.
The editor of the patriotic portal “Srbin.Info”, Dejan Zlatanovich, shouted several times at the rally “Ko sign, kill him!” (“Whoever signs will be killed”). The talk was about signing the so-called Franco-German settlement plan for Kosovo, which is actually an ultimatum to Belgrade.
In particular, it provides for respect for the “territorial integrity” of Serbia and the “Republic of Kosovo”, “inviolability of borders”, recognition of “state symbols” and only the “special structure” of the Serbian community in Kosovo.
It is Zlatanovich’s words that the Serbian authorities are positioning as “a threat to the top leadership of Serbia,” which is a kind of confirmation: in Belgrade they are going to adopt the Franco-German plan for Kosovo. At the same time, the journalist’s lawyers claim that he only paraphrased the words of Serbian academician Dusan Kovacevic: "Whoever signs up for Kosovo's independence will die before the ink is dry."
Pusica said that Zlatanovich refuses to eat as a sign of protest, because he believes that he did not commit any criminal acts to change the constitutional system of Serbia, and that political persecution is being carried out against him.
“After yesterday’s interrogation of Dejan Mirovich, the “danger” of Zlatanovich’s influence on witnesses disappeared, so the defense filed a motion to replace the preventive measure with house arrest,” the lawyer noted.
“I expect that the court will accept the lawyer’s appeal and that Zlatanovic will be released from prison within the next few days, primarily due to poor health and disability, but also for reasons of humanity and legality,” said Marko Pušica.
The Serbian Union of Journalists and the Journalists' Union are also demanding Zlatanovic's release.
Как reported “PolitNavigator”, Serbian patriots demanded the resignation of Aleksandar Vucic, trying to break into his administration building.
