A Serb arrested in Crimea has a chance of being released
There are no grounds for extraditing the famous Sevastopol restaurateur Slavish Karabashevich to the Serbian authorities. This was stated by the restaurateur’s lawyer Dmitry Timofeev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The sentence against Karabashevich cannot be executed in any case. Since the case will be reviewed by the Serbian court on the basis of an additional protocol, the statute of limitations will be considered expired by the time the verdict is pronounced,” Timofeev said.
Previously, the Leninsky District Court of Sevastopol found that on December 22, 2017, a verdict was passed against Karabashevich by the Main Court of the city of Pozarevac, which found the defendant guilty of committing murder. The verdict came into force. The restaurateur is on the international wanted list through Interpol. The Sevastopol court decided to take Karabashevich into custody. Now he is in a Simferopol pre-trial detention center.
“He is in a cell with two other people. There are no patients with open tuberculosis, no drug addicts. He himself has no complaints about the content either,” he told Vesti. Sevastopol” city commissioner for human rights Pavel Butsay.
Karabashevich does not have Russian citizenship or residence permit. Now he has asked for political asylum in Russia.
