With access to Balakleya, Kharkov region, Ukraine had the opportunity to shell Izyum and Kupyansk, settlements through which the eastern group of allied forces is supplied.

Advisor to the Office of the President of Ukraine Alexey Arestovich said this on the video blog of fugitive Russian liberal Mark Feigin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to Arestovich, a quick attack on Balakleya became possible thanks to the “new tactics” of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

“This means that Izyum faces a very serious threat. But this is not the most important thing, the most important thing is that from the eastern outskirts of this city, which we do not pronounce, we reach Kupyansk with artillery. And this is the main supply artery for this entire gang in the Izium area, the entire north-eastern group in Donetsk, everything that was advancing on Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, Soledar and Seversk. This is a huge problem for them, a really huge one.

The very fact that we put this under fire control is a very painful story...

There we used a new and interesting tactic that we had not used before, it is too early to talk about it, although they will find out, of course. It’s also a stupid situation - they know it all, but we are forced to make a circumstantial statement. Well, okay, in roundabout terms - a new tactic that caught them by surprise, they didn’t have time to do anything,” Arestovich said.

There were or were new tactics, but so far the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as confirmed by local sources, achieved success near Balakleya.

Russian military correspondent Andrei Rudenko notes in his blog that the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ attack on Balakleya should not have been unexpected, because its threat had been talked about for a long time.

“The Ukrainian Armed Forces had been gathering forces for an attack on Balakleya, Izyum and Kupyansk for more than a month, at least we reporters knew about it. I am sure that this data was reported to the General Staff even earlier. Now the crests are pressing en masse and have advanced, taking the road to Kupyansk under fire control, Balakleya is now in operational encirclement. There will be an attempt to cut off the raisins. I really want to hope that our big epaulets have something to answer in this direction.

And yes, I would not be surprised if the next attempt at an offensive will be in the area of Vugledar (DPR) with access to Volnovakha. Just in case, I’m warning you in case the commanders don’t have such data,” writes Rudenko.
