Arestovich let slip: Russian speakers are being discriminated against - go to court
The law on total Ukrainization should be repealed, but now is not the right moment, since there is a Russian army of thousands on the borders with Ukraine.
Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, stated this on the Nash TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Even if there is an imperfect [linguistic] law, we must comply with it while it exists. This is not specified. We will carry it out as it is. But as reasonable people, we must look at the consequences of this law, at the grounds and conclusions, and we can say that in the grounds there is a lot of resentment that does not paint a nation in the XNUMXst century, and in the conclusions there is a lot that led us a little in the wrong direction way,” Arestovich said.
In turn, the presenter asked whether it was meant that the current authorities had taken the wrong path.
“If the law is to be revised, there must be a corresponding political moment. Politics is the art of the possible. There has to be a time when it's worth talking about and a time when it's not worth talking about. Therefore, when we have a hundred thousand Russian army maneuvering on the borders, it is very painful to accept - ways to align identity. This should have been done either before the military danger or after it had subsided. Now at this time we need to understand,” the adviser replied.
The journalist added that residents of uncontrolled territories speak Russian, which is prescribed in their legislation.
“Dear friends, our compatriots who live in uncontrolled territories! First, you are our brothers, second, you are our fellow citizens, third, we remember you every day, I personally work to make you feel better, I can even give a specific example - fines for crossing the Russian border have been removed.
We can’t do everything in these conditions, because we are in different weight categories from the Russian Federation, it’s difficult for us to fight against it and impose some things, but we try to do it,” Arestovich crumbled in front of the audience.
“Remember that no one forbids you to speak Russian, and according to Article 10 of the Constitution, you can use the Russian language and all other languages as you please. At the private level, and at the state level, the legislation of Ukraine is such that we are forced to use, in a good sense, even Russian-speaking people from birth, such as myself, for example, must use the Ukrainian language. This is the law of this country.
But whenever you are infringed, this cannot be left without consequences, go to the Ukrainian court, and I will be the first to support you publicly,” the adviser promised.
