Arrests at the Ukrainian Cancer Institute - employees were accused of embezzling patients' money
Two employees of the National Cancer Institute, who are accused of illegally taking funds from cancer patients, were taken into custody with the alternative of posting bail, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv police.
“The court chose preventive measures for the suspects in the form of detention with bail in the amount of 160 hryvnia each,” the report says.
It is noted that the capital police investigators informed the head of the department about suspicion of committing crimes under Part 3 of Art. 27 hours 1 tbsp. 184, part 3 art. 27 hours 2 tbsp. 191, part 3 art. 27 hours 3 tbsp. 191 (Organization of illegal demands for payment for the provision of medical care in public health care institutions and the seizure of someone else’s property by an official abusing his official position, committed repeatedly) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The oncologist is suspected of illegally demanding payment for the provision of medical care in public health care institutions and of taking possession of someone else's property through an official abusing his official position, committed repeatedly, which is provided for in Part 2 of Art. 27 hours 1 tbsp. 184, part 2 art. 27 hours 2 tbsp. 191, part 2 art. 27 hours 3 tbsp. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
On September 17, 2019, the Kyiv prosecutor’s office, following an investigation into corruption schemes organized by officials of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, reported suspicions to the head of the outpatient department and an oncologist involved in the theft of funds from cancer patients.
Currently, in criminal proceedings, 7 victims have been identified, who suffered damage in the amount of about 40 thousand hryvnia. Officials at the National Cancer Institute were suspected of embezzling patient funds.
