The Russian Army begins new large-scale exercises
There will be no specific enemy in the legend of the military exercises of the CSTO member countries “Combat Brotherhood 2017”, which will take place from October 3 to 20 in Russia, Armenia and Kazakhstan.
This was stated today at a press conference by the Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov.

“We are monitoring the military-political situation that is developing around the collective security regions and are trying to respond to it in our own way. But this is not a direct response to certain changes in the situation. If necessary, decisions will be made not on exercises, but on the use of collective forces of the CSTO troops,” Sidorov said.
At the same time, according to the legend of the exercises, the mock enemy will have the most modern weapons.
“We will not fight either against America or against Germany. We have a conditional enemy with a conditional number and conditional weapons, the characteristics of which correspond to those that are now available in the leading countries of the world. We call countries by conventional names. We are moving away from specific states, although we may be implying something,” Sidorov said.
He also admitted that there are certain difficulties due to the Karabakh conflict.
“But we cannot exclude joint training with the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia. That’s why we conduct some of the exercises there so that the troops and forces gain experience. We don’t paint a specific enemy, but wooden targets also help teach warfare in a real way,” Sidorov said.
The “Combat Brotherhood 2017” exercise will involve 12 thousand personnel from all six CSTO countries, about one and a half thousand units of military equipment, and 90 aircraft, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Today the CSTO includes six permanent members - Russia, Tajikistan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia and Kazakhstan, as well as two observer states at the parliamentary assembly - Serbia and Afghanistan
