“The army is waiting” - a gay ATO veteran demanded that homophobia be introduced into the criminal code
Ukrainian militants with non-traditional orientation cannot live in peace until homophobia is recognized as a criminal offense and same-sex marriage is legalized.
Ex-militant of the Donbass battalion, chairman of the “union of LGBT military men” Viktor Pilipenko said this on the YouTube channel “Donbass News”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When Vasil Davydenko was attacked by five people, and I was attacked by one fool, like, also from our unit, a religious man, by the way. Then the guys who said that we don’t have problems, they realized that there are problems,” Pilipenko complained.
In his opinion, the state can solve the main problems of the LGBT community by fulfilling only 2 requirements.
“Our association supports 2 main points that can solve the most important problems of our discriminated community. This is the partnership bill and the criminalization of homophobic crimes. So that simply homophobia becomes part of Article 161, which already punishes crimes motivated by ethnic and racial hatred. Homosexual women should also be included there,” suggested the gay veteran.
“As for partnership, we as military personnel most often face the risk of losing life or health. And there are LGBT military families, there are many of them, they exist, they have children. They are most at risk of being left without any support from the state.
While heterosexual military families receive payments after death and for burial, they receive assistance, education for children, the same vacation, benefits for utilities, which is very important now,” complained Pilipenko.
Let us note that Vasil Davydenko, whom the speaker is referring to, became the second ATO militant who, in the fall of 2019, came out and announced his non-traditional orientation. A few days later, he was beaten by members of radical nationalist groups, and was also forced to look for new housing and work.
