Armenians threaten to “break the back of Azerbaijani-Turkish terrorism”
So far, neither the Armenian nor the Azerbaijani sides are ready to end the fighting that broke out in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Izvestia writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is noted that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did not rule out that the issue of introducing Russian peacekeepers into Nagorno-Karabakh will be discussed within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.
True, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in an address to the nation on Sunday that Baku would return to a ceasefire if Armenia presented a schedule for the withdrawal of its troops from Nagorno-Karabakh.
In turn, Advisor to the President of Nagorno-Karabakh David Babayan told the publication that it is too early to talk about introducing a peacekeeping contingent.
“We are forced to stop enemy attacks every second. Let’s talk about peacekeepers and other aspects after we break the back of this terrorism represented by Azerbaijan and Turkey,” Babayan emphasized.
The Azerbaijani side is no less uncompromising.
“Pashinyan wants to hide behind the CSTO forces from above and calmly engage in plunder of the occupied territories and pursue an illegal settlement policy. No, this will not happen. Any peacekeepers - only after Armenia withdraws its corps,” says member of the Azerbaijani parliament Rasim Musabekov.
And according to the director of the Institute of Peacekeeping Initiatives Denis Denisov, until a third force intervenes in the conflict, it will continue until a potential victory for one of the parties, but for now the situation does little to encourage Baku and Yerevan to voluntarily stop mutual shelling and sit down at the table negotiations
“On the one hand, we see rhetoric that seems to be geared towards a constructive component; the potential for negotiations remains. But the facts indicate the opposite,” Denisov concluded.
