“You shouldn’t think that because of this situation there will be any anti-Russian sentiment in Armenia,” noted media expert Karen Madoyan. – The country is very dependent on Russia; the largest Armenian diaspora lives there. More than 40% of all financial revenues for non-legal entities come from the Russian Federation. The majority of the population has sympathy for Russia.”
Unlike Ukraine, Armenia quite calmly accepted the rejection of European integration and accession to the Eurasian Economic Union.
“There were no mass actions against this, because our people are mostly pro-Russian, there are no excesses,” says Armenian historian Zaven Grigoryan, a member of the Yerevan Geopolitical Club organization. “The majority of the population believes that we should move towards Eurasian integration.”
