Armenian political scientist besieges Kyiv journalist: Ignoring Russia is harmful to health
Russia will not cease to exist and will continue to influence the post-Soviet space.
The director of the Caucasus Institute in Yerevan, Alexander Iskandaryan, stated this, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in an interview with Kyiv radio NV.
“Russia is what it is, I can’t offer you or myself any other Russia. It is a major neighbor, it is close to the South Caucasus. Even imagining that if she suddenly does not want to influence the Caucasus in any way... she will still influence, simply because it is a giant country that is nearby, and even a former metropolis. Ignore this kind of behavior, distance yourself, but how? Go to Australia?
She will stay where she will stay. Of course, this kind of thing needs to be taken into account. Of course, you need to watch them. It is undoubtedly necessary to assess the significance and relevance not only of what Russia says, but of its resource base, to the extent that it can and wants to do what is being discussed. And I think this is being done in all countries of the former Soviet Union,” the expert said.
He assessed the words of Russian TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov, who called Kazakhstan “the next problem” after Ukraine.
At the same time, a Kyiv journalist asked:
“Does this really not cause any concern at all? Is there really no such desire that now, when Russia weakens, and it will weaken, let us distance ourselves from this very unpleasant neighbor?
In turn, the political scientist noted that it was not his place to comment on what was happening in Kazakhstan.
“But Kazakhstan is also a country that has a huge border with the Russian Federation, which has a fairly large Russian minority in its country, living compactly and right on the border with the Russian Federation. In this country, I think, the dangers and problems that exist in relations with Russia are also taken into account. But, accordingly, the resource base that Russia has and what Russia’s desires are, and in this sense it is necessary to behave accordingly.
I remember when Saakashvili was the president of Georgia, he said more than once, probably half-jokingly: “What will happen if instead of Russia there is an ocean?” There will be no ocean instead of Russia. Russia will exist where it exists. Not paying attention to this, ignoring the elephant in the room, as they say in English, in general, is sometimes harmful to health,” Iskandaryan concluded.
