Assad is studying a proposal to link Sevastopol with Syria by sea
State Duma deputy from Sevastopol Dmitry Belik, during a visit to Syria, proposed that President Bashar al-Assad and Prime Minister Imad Khamis organize a new maritime economic route from Tartus to Crimea.
Belik claims that the initiative has attracted the interest of the Syrian side.
“In particular, Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis proposed establishing fruit supplies from Syria to Russia through Sevastopol. And from our city to the SAR, Russian grain can be supplied... Considering that Syria is not very concerned about the economic sanctions under which Sevastopol is located, the proposal that we were able to discuss with the Syrian Prime Minister can seriously support the economy of our city,” says the deputy.
“The President of Syria listened with interest to the proposal to organize the Sevastopol-Tartus sea route. The creation of such a route, especially with the launch of both the road and railway parts of the Crimean Bridge, is a strategically interesting direction in Russian-Syrian relations,” Belik said.
