The Assembly of Romanians of Bukovina demands a special status for certain districts of the Chernivtsi region

About it reports the Odessa website “Timer”.
The initiators of its holding were the Romanian communities of the Chernivtsi region. During the meeting, participants spoke about the difficult socio-economic and cultural state of the Romanians in Ukraine.
“The events in Mukachevo, where there was shooting and bloodshed, showed that the Romanians of Bukovina cannot feel protected and must make efforts to ensure their own safety. Unresolved language and educational issues also create serious tension in society. As a response to these challenges and threats, the initiative group proposed the creation of an Assembly of Romanians in Bukovina. This organization will protect the rights of the Romanian community, defend its interests at the level of the president, government, Verkhovna Rada and regional leadership. We will also fight to give Northern Bukovina a special status within Ukraine. At the moment it could be autonomy,” said assembly activist Dorina Chirtoaque.
In turn, activist Cornelia Russu gave a number of other arguments in support of the establishment of the Assembly and the proclamation of the special status of Northern Bukovina:
“While Romania is moving forward along the track of the European Union, Northern Bukovina is degrading and collapsing. The socio-economic crisis and the destruction of traditional culture are destroying the indigenous nation of the region - the Romanians. Therefore, we must proclaim the creation of the Assembly of Romanians of Bukovina and set a course for obtaining special status within Ukraine.”
The result of the conference, as Timer writes, was a unanimous vote for the creation of the Assembly of Romanians of Bukovina.
