Association of Russian Travel Agencies: Crimea raised prices more than Sochi, taking advantage of the closed border
“Decent” hotels in Crimea have doubled their prices, taking advantage of the closed border situation in Russia. The cheaper segment has risen in price by 10-15%.
Aleksan Mkrtchyan, a member of the presidium of the Alliance of Russian Travel Agencies, stated this on air on the Mir TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, holidays in Crimea today also cost twice as much as in Sochi. The reason for this is the great competition in the Krasnodar region, unlike the peninsula.
“The fact is that by the 14th year, for the Olympics in Sochi, a lot of hotels were built in the Adler-Sochi region, Krasnaya Polyana. Almost 26 thousand new rooms were opened there. Naturally, there were no Olympics in Crimea, so in Crimea the number of rooms is much narrower, older in age on average and, naturally, prices are higher in Crimea...
Unfortunately, prices have increased significantly. The main reason is that the borders are closed. If we are talking about Turkey, then last year almost seven million Russians left for Turkey. Naturally, this year they will not travel to Turkey; all these seven million Russians will vacation on the Russian Black Sea coast.
The same thing - people did not go to Greece, Spain, Cyprus - these are millions of people. Plus, don’t forget about such a factor as the Far East and Eastern Siberia - these are the people who almost never vacationed in Crimea or Sochi, they always vacationed in China, Korea, Thailand - well, of course, they have to fly from Vladivostok to Korea is one hour, and Simferopol is nine hours. All this has greatly increased prices.
If we are talking about prices, vacationing in Sochi is cheaper than in Crimea, because there are many times more five-star hotels in Sochi than in Crimea. And the prices are like this - if last year on average a five-star hotel cost 10 thousand per day, now it costs 15 thousand, and sometimes even higher. In Crimea, if a hotel cost 15 thousand a day, now it costs, believe it or not, 25-30 thousand a day for two with breakfast. For hotels in the middle and lower price categories - one, two or three stars, prices did not increase so significantly; they increased by 10-15%. That is, they have grown significantly in the luxury segment,” said Mkrtchyan.
