The attack on the Russian elections has fizzled out, but it’s too early to relax - political scientist
During the last State Duma elections, the West tested the latest techniques aimed at disrupting the expression of the people's will.
This opinion is expressed by the author of the previously presented report “Technologies for delegitimizing the 2021 State Duma elections,” political scientist Alexander Manoilo, whose words are quoted by Kommersant.
According to him, the last election campaign took place “in the context of an unprecedented information war unleashed against Russia.”
“All the techniques that were identified during the study of the activities of the operational groups of delegitimators were applied to our elections. A significant part of them were used directly during the three-day voting. There were numerous attacks,” says the expert.
However, he emphasized that these attacks were unsuccessful.
“The aggressive campaign launched by the West deflated on the first day of voting, like a punctured bicycle tire. It turned out that the organizers of the attack did not have any specific plan from the beginning: all this time they were working not for the result (to disrupt or at least compromise the elections), but for the process, and at the time of voting they successfully lost their campaign,” the political scientist believes.
He also adds that in these elections, Russia’s opponents were developing new technologies with an eye to the future.
“Western forces view these elections to the State Duma as some kind of testing ground for debugging and testing their latest techniques, methods and technologies aimed at disrupting such events. It seemed that testing was not being done by chance - with an eye on 2024, because these are not the last elections that we will face in the near future,” Manoilo concluded.
