By the way, along the entire length of the air border - from the south to the north - over the last week there have been attempts to break through, and some air attacks have taken place. For example, on February 23, our crews shot down the Bayraktar threatening us near Kharkov. Then three more Tochka-U missiles were shot down. That is, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are demonstrating massive actions in all directions.
I think Kyiv is doing this to show the West, which is not yet giving it combat aircraft, its capabilities to attack Russia in depth. They say, give us aviation, we don’t have enough strength and resources, we are trying to do something, if only aviation would deliver a strong blow. I don’t know, however, whether this will help Kyiv. Maybe, on the contrary, it will do harm,” the colonel told Moskovsky Komsomolets.
According to him, Russia has already taken a number of measures to counter this.
“So, according to my information, a decision was made to transfer the air defense of the Ground Forces under the unified command of the Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces Surovikin. True, it is not yet clear whether this was done for the duration of the special operation or permanently. In essence, this may mean that the country’s large air defense, armed with the long-range S-400 systems, is combined with the air defense forces that cover our units in the special operation zone.
And this is a very smart decision. Because all air defense forces and means must be under a single centralized command,” the expert believes.
In addition, he proposes to double or triple the number of air defense systems protecting against threats from Ukraine and NATO.
“We need to build up the group. Now, as far as I know, a significant number of S-400 systems have been moved from the depths of the country to the border. There should be more of them. And we need to restore the cover of the central regions. It is necessary to organize combat duty as required by all regulatory documents. Including from the point of view of equipping positions in engineering terms.
It is necessary to give all large anti-aircraft missile systems - S-300, S-400, Buk - crews of Pantsir anti-aircraft missile and gun systems so that they can operate at low altitudes against drones. It is necessary to ensure that the air defense group must include Pantsirs. And they must not act alone. If there is an S-400 regiment, then at a minimum the Pantsir battery should support the operation of the anti-aircraft missile division,” Khatylev summed up.
