Ukraine's nuclear energy industry is being covered with a copper basin
Ukrainian scientists predict in the near future the collapse of the country’s nuclear industry, and with it the entire Ukrainian energy sector, due to the planned closure of nuclear power plants and the state’s lack of funds for their modernization, Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes.

The newspaper quotes the words of the former director of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Mikhail Umanets, who said that existing trends threaten Ukraine with “the loss of half of the existing nuclear generation by 2020, and the entire industry by 2030.”
“Neither the European Union nor the United States is in a hurry to provide financial assistance to the Ukrainian energy sector,” the publication notes. “So, despite the rosy plans for future cooperation with the American Westinghouse, previously voiced by the head of the Ministry of Energy Igor Nasalik, partners in the United States last week refused to invest in Kyiv under the pretext of their commercial inexpediency.”
“This confirmed the opinion of some Ukrainian experts that Ukraine is interested in Westinghouse solely as a testing ground for its assemblies, and not as a market (85% of the fuel for Ukrainian nuclear power plants, according to the Ministry of Energy, will in any case be supplied by Rosatom in the coming years.” ), – emphasizes “RG”. “In order to avoid an energy crisis in winter, Kyiv has no choice but to extend the life of power units without the necessary repairs, in violation of IAEA rules.”
