A training duel took place off the coast of Kamchatka between two nuclear submarines of the Russian Navy. This was reported by Flot.com with reference to the press service of the Pacific Fleet.

According to the scenario of the exercises, the nuclear-powered strategic missile submarines Vladimir Monomakh and Alexander Nevsky staged a clash with an enemy submarine.

“The crew of the Vladimir Monomakh was tasked with tracking down a mock enemy submarine. This role was taken on by the missile carrier Alexander Nevsky. The submarines then conducted attack and counterattack exercises using weapons and sonar. During the exercise, the submarine “Vladimir Monomakh” fired a training torpedo at the “Alexander Nevsky” and successfully evaded a retaliatory attack,” the publication reports.

"Vladimir Monomakh" and "Alexander Nevsky" are fourth-generation nuclear-powered strategic missile submarines of Project 955 "Borey".

Each submarine is armed with 16 Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles, which can be equipped with multiple independently targetable warheads or units with means of penetrating advanced enemy missile defense systems, equipped with thermonuclear charges with a capacity of 6 x 300 kilotons or 10 x 150 kilotons.

All boats have six 533-mm torpedo tubes; the ammunition includes Fizik torpedoes, and in the future Futlyar torpedoes, which can be used against underwater and surface targets.

At the moment, the Borei class nuclear submarines, according to experts, are the quietest submarines in the world and are rightfully considered one of the most advanced in their class.

The high accuracy of Bulava missiles allows them to hit the entire range of high-strength targets such as silo launchers and in-depth command posts.

The long range of the Bulava missile allows the Borei to keep the entire northern hemisphere at gunpoint.

The high counterforce capabilities of the Bulava, given the vulnerability of US strategic nuclear forces, provide Russia with greater freedom in choosing the form of combat operations to ensure nuclear deterrence. The missile was put into service in 2012.
