Journalist Zhanna Bilotskaya talks about this on the pages of the Kyiv newspaper Den.
“An unfortunate incident occurred with a participant in the hostilities, a former soldier of the 51st brigade, who, together with another officer, was in captivity for more than a year. They were the last of all the prisoners of the brigade to be released in September 2015. He was returning home from work with his comrades; the ATO guys in Ternopil took discounted bus tickets. However, the driver refused to carry them, saying that this is the will of the carrier: not to take beneficiaries. The guys turned to the bus station administration for explanations and support, but there, according to the soldier, they took the side of the carrier.
When ATO residents began to prove that there was a law according to which they had the right to preferential travel, they encountered rudeness. “I just want to say: “Thank you, nenka Ukraine, for the “new life.” We probably fought for her,” this warrior told me. “But in fact, it was very painful to listen to and go through all this.” It feels like they wiped our feet. And this is because they wanted to take advantage of their legal right to transportation,” the journalist reports the words of the militants of the so-called ATO.
She herself says that in this case two things struck her.
“The incident occurred in Ternopil, on the territory of Western Ukraine, where many guys were injured and where, I thought, patriotism came first,” Bilotskaya is indignant. – Second: the ATO soldiers were coming from... earnings. What did they fight for then? Before the war, someone had a good job, which they lost and volunteered for the front, believing in the promised “new life.” The situation is complicated by the fact that the state is not very keen on returning funds to carriers. And they, in turn, refuse to transport beneficiaries. There are many more Atovites than there were “Afghans”. But we are at war, and we need to take this into account. Thanks to them, these carriers have the opportunity to make money.”
