With such threats Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov spoke on Facebook.
“May 9 is ahead. As always lately, various political forces will try to use this day to remind people of themselves in any way. Apologists for the “Russian world” in Ukraine, through their propaganda channels, are dispersing the “Immortal Regiment” action, speculating on people’s feelings,” he wrote.
According to Avakov, he, as the Minister of Internal Affairs, is aware of plans for such “provocations” in the capital and a number of cities in southeastern Ukraine.
“It is not the business of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and its police and guard units to evaluate, much less regulate, political activity, but... at all demonstrations and marches planned on this day, units of the National Police and the National Guard will not tolerate either anti-Ukrainian symbols or anti-Ukrainian statements! All relevant attempts by forces wishing to provoke will be stopped. Police officers across the country have received very clear instructions,” the minister threatens.
Meanwhile, all of Kyiv is hung with posters depicting a “reconciling” veteran of the Great Patriotic War and a Hitler collaborator from the UPA in a confederate uniform. The inscriptions on the posters claim that they are both “victors of Nazism.”
