At a meeting with the State Department envoy, Avakov praised himself for holding fair elections
Interior Minister Arsen Avakov met in Kyiv with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent, they discussed ensuring law and order during the presidential elections, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this today.
Earlier on Wednesday, the press service of the US Embassy in Ukraine reported that Kent had arrived in Kyiv and had already met with newly elected President Vladimir Zelensky.
“Holding fair and transparent elections is a matter of national security. We completed the task. I have repeatedly said that fair elections cannot be achieved only through the police if society does not accept this philosophy. We have witnessed a new culture of the electoral process,” the press service quotes Avakov as saying.
He added that the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are “fully prepared to ensure law and order during the parliamentary elections in the fall.”
