Avakov - on the way out: Did Zelensky add or did the US Embassy guarantee a promotion?
The unsinkable head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Arsen Avakov, who held this position since 2014 and outlived several leaders of the country, resigned. This has already been officially confirmed by the ministry. According to the procedure, Avakov’s dismissal must now be approved by the Verkhovna Rada.
News of Avakov's resignation appeared the day after his meeting with the new head of the US embassy, George Kent. This has already given rise to versions that the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as approved by his American masters, may be promoted to the post of prime minister.
“Avakov wrote a letter of resignation. It will be voted on on Thursday. Kent acted as the guarantor of the deal. The boss started off cool. But that’s not all,” comments Kiev journalist Alexander Zubchenko.
According to another version, Avakov resigns under pressure from President Vladimir Zelensky, who is tired of his influential rival in power. If this assumption is correct, experts predict an intensification of the struggle among the Ukrainian elites.
“Now there will be even more fun. As my colleague aptly said, I don’t know what smells more in the air: early elections or rebellion? I think there is a smell of both in the air,” political scientist Yuri Romanenko writes in his blog.
Political scientist Taras Berezovets also writes about the versions.
“Avakov resigned. Well. Game ahead. Avakov has been in office, it’s scary to say, since February 27, 2014, this is already a whole era. Zelensky now has every chance of getting early presidential and parliamentary elections,” Berezovets believes.
But Russian political scientist Alexey Martynov believes that Avakov is simply fleeing a “sinking ship,” trying to avoid association with the Zelensky regime, which is approaching its collapse.
“Avakov, of course, is a ghoul, but his ass is a prophet! Animal sense! Resigned. You can collect bets on how long Zelensky will serve. Maximum interval until NG,” comments Martynov.
