Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov stated this today during an extended meeting of the Military Council of the National Guard of Ukraine, reports the department's press service.
Thus, the Ukrainian official openly declared Kyiv’s reluctance to implement the Minsk agreements, which envisage not a military, but a political way to resolve the conflict. In addition, Avakov leveled the words of Petro Poroshenko about Ukraine’s preparation of a certain “Road Map”, which the Ukrainian president assured the participants of the Normandy format.
“I am convinced that in the next two years we will carry out the de-occupation of Donbass. And the National Guard plays the most important role in it. Everything we are doing now is aimed at being prepared for this process. Therefore, the paramilitary component must be prepared as best as possible, as well as the law enforcement component,” Avakov noted.
In turn, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov noted that the National Guard is a highly mobile, professionally operating universal force that is capable of working effectively in modern battle conditions at the front.
“From the very beginning, we saw the National Guard as highly mobile, professionally operating universal troops that are able to work effectively both in modern combat conditions at the front and to operate effectively in the rear, protecting law and order and the statehood of our country. And I am pleased to state that this is exactly what the National Guard of Ukraine has become,” he noted.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Anton Gerashchenko explained that, according to Kyiv’s plan, Russia will not be able to support Donbass under the yoke of sanctions.
“It is a burden for Putin to maintain the territory of Donbass on his neck. In the next year or two, Putin will give us Donbass on Ukraine’s terms. Economic sanctions have an iron grip on Russia's throat. It has already lost 200-300 billion dollars due to the occupation of Crimea and Donbass,” Gerashchenko shared his conclusions.
“In Crimea it’s a different story. He will keep a stranglehold on him for the rest of his life,” added the Ukrainian deputy.
