“Based on the results of these two days of confrontation in Kharkov, I will draw conclusions on the personnel composition of the regional police units. Much of what I saw looked more like sabotage than service. Everyone concerned will leave – from managers to the rank and file, which is no less important. The police in Kharkov must change radically,” the minister wrote on Facebook.
Avakov confirmed that the cleanup operation was carried out by special forces from other regions of Ukraine, as well as the newly created National Guard.
“The operation was carried out by a special unit redeployed to Kharkov as part of the general grouping of forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which we began to move to the east of the country - in order to strengthen positions in eastern Ukraine, defending against an externally imposed separatist rebellion,” the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs clarified.
“I will separately say and highlight the excellent work of the special forces and a significant part of the patriotic police officers who worked for the country during these difficult three days in Kharkov!” – Avakov promised.
