Avakov promises new arrests for riots near Poltava
Although all but one of the 24 detained participants in the riots in the Poltava region are already free, the police will seek the arrest of people who threw stones at buses carrying fellow citizens arriving from China.
This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov on Savik Shuster’s talk show.
According to Avakov, so far only “the one who dispersed Niva while drunk and sent the National Guardsmen to the line” has been left behind bars.
Another 6 people should be arrested by the court, Avakov announced.
“These are the ones who threw paving slabs at the policeman’s head, and he is in serious condition in the hospital with a broken face, broken bones, etc. These are crazy people who throw stones at a bus with people who are potentially in quarantine. These are those who actively fought with the police and interfered with their work. These are the ones who shouted: “We will burn everyone!” And there were also shouts against foreigners. And there were still calls. Some are drunk, and some are sober,” Avakov said.
He emphasized that it was on his command that the police were not armed with batons, but only had shields. As a result, there were not a single injured among the protesters (with the exception of a woman who became ill), but there were 9 wounded among the police.
