“On April 20, 2017, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov sent an official letter to the Secretary General of Interpol Jürgen Stock. The minister’s letter sets out well-known, more than convincing facts and arguments indicating the obvious groundlessness of the accusations against Ukrainian citizen A.P. Yatsenyuk. In addition, the letter states that such an assessment of the Russian Federation’s actions regarding Yatsenyuk, which is covered in the minister’s letter, is the official public position of Ukraine, in particular, the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
In addition, it is reported that the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine has officially appealed to all democratic countries and the European Court of Human Rights with a demand to refrain from recognizing decisions made by the Russian authorities and courts regarding Yatsenyuk.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs also noted, “The Ministry hopes that the General Secretariat and the Commission for Control of Interpol Files will take into account the position of Ukraine and prohibit the use of Interpol’s capabilities and mechanisms for the Russian-inspired political persecution of Arseniy Yatsenyuk.”
Let us remember, as PolitNavigator previously reported, a Russian court arrested Yatsenyuk in absentia.
