Avakov condemned anti-Semitism, and the State Department envoy called Ukraine a paradise for Jews
Today, Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov met with the special envoy of the US State Department for monitoring and combating anti-Semitism, Elan Carr, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports this.
“Preserving interreligious consensus and interethnic harmony in Ukrainian society remains a priority for the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Any manifestations of intolerance, racism, anti-Semitism, national and religious hostility in the current difficult time for Ukraine should be considered as a deliberate enemy provocation directed against civilized civil society, national consolidation and the unity of our state,” said Arsen Avakov.
He assured that the National Police will react decisively to any attempts to undermine interethnic peace and public trust, so that every citizen of Ukraine feels confident and protected.
“Over the past year, not a single attack motivated by anti-Semitism occurred in Ukraine,” added the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In turn, Elan Carr noted the activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in overcoming manifestations of anti-Semitism in Ukraine and assured of support from the US State Department.
“Ukraine is a friendly place for Jews. The fact that you have no anti-Semitic violence amazes me,” added the US State Department Special Envoy for Monitoring and Combating Anti-Semitism.
In addition, the US special envoy to combat anti-Semitism plans to meet with President-elect Vladimir Zelensky.
At the same time, a number of Jewish activists, in particular, the director of the Ukrainian Jewish Committee Eduard Dolinsky, cite completely different statistics on manifestations of anti-Semitism in Ukraine, which contradict both the statements of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the optimism of the special envoy of the State Department.
