Avakov boasted that in Donbass “Berkut” members are dying for Ukraine
Many police officers who opposed the Maidan protesters in 2013–2014 continue to serve the regime that seized power after the coup.
Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov stated this in an interview with the online publication “Left Bank”.
The publication asked why the “cleansing of the police” is not happening, noting that former employees of the Berkut special forces continue to serve in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In turn, the minister said that 56 percent of the previous staff had been dismissed from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“Nevertheless, 185 ex-Berkut members serve in the Kyiv special police regiments,” the journalists noted.
“And, using your phraseology, do you know how many Berkut soldiers died at the front? Alas, almost two dozen guys. There is no need to put blanket labels on innocent children. This is vile. Guilt-facts-responsibility. I don’t accept anything else!” Avakov objected.
