Avakov counts on the post of prime minister for “saving the Verkhovna Rada” from radicals
Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has launched a campaign to strengthen his position in the government and can count on occupying the prime minister's chair during future reshuffles in the Cabinet.
Political scientist Alexey Yakubin stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I have a feeling that Avakov has launched a campaign to strengthen his positions. Among other things, information is confirmed that there was some kind of agreement between Avakov and Zelensky that if by the end of the year (this was such a test of Avakov’s tenure in office) he did not show any visible results of his work, then there would be personnel reshuffles, including including, regarding the post of Minister of Internal Affairs.
We see that here Avakov defended the Verkhovna Rada, here he solved the Sheremet case. Avakov thereby receives arguments that alternative power centers did not work, but he shows his activities.
I do not rule out that one of the goals of all this (the protests near the Verkhovna Rada) is that Avakov is trying to strengthen his card of interaction with the president.
And it was not for nothing that rumors appeared about changes in the Cabinet of Ministers - perhaps in February or a little later - even with a replacement of the Prime Minister.
I don’t rule out that Avakov believes that if the situation continues to escalate and there are difficulties with public order, and he shows his need, then his chances of at least starting to apply for this position increase,” the expert concluded.
